This Week at Ponto Beach Club - April 1st Edition
If it’s your first time here, welcome to the Ponto Beach Club.
If you’re not familiar with the name, it’s a beach in South Carlsbad and one of my favorite surf spots.
I am on a mission to connect great humans to create successful outcomes. IRL or In Real Life is my Modus Operandi…
Read on for my weekly slice of sneakers-on-the-sidewalk insight into the SD business community.
👇Where My Heads At This Week 👇
I got you to open it 😆.
Happy April Fools Day. I took a week off last week… but I had an excuse.
I’ve had my head down. I have been using low and no code AI tools to clean up my life a bit. Some of my business partnerships/investments have websites tied to hosting fees that I have decided to tackle.
Squarespace and Shopify are enemies of the Fraser State at the moment. The fees for some of these companies are minimal, but replacing sites and using some of these incredible new tools have definitely changed the game. They’ve also allowed me to create layers that I could only dream of in platforms like Shopify and Squarespace.
To give you an example of the power of these tools, I recently built a website for one of my tech portfolio companies Flag 50. It’s a referee scoring platform for flag football and we needed to update our website. I decided that instead of paying our engineers to build, I would do it myself. It wasn’t the best use of my time, but I am in learning mode. It’s not completely finished, but 3-4 hours of work and little coding, not only built a site, but it built an actual demo of how our tech works.
I am fascinated in a lot of ways at how fast it’s all moving. I have said it before, I am not bullish on what it’s going to do the global economy. Sure, we may have a bunch of careers that end in the word "prompt,” but I ponder what our kids futures will be like with AI at the helm.
You are going to hear a lot more about AI from me and if you don’t like that, you don’t have read it and if you unsubscribe, I fully understand. But I promise I am going to do my best to stay ahead of this AI curve from neophyte’s perspective.
You are all officially Vibe Coders. That term was recently coined and simply means, the vibe of what you’re looking to create, rather than the code itself. Here is a list of low code and no code platforms:
Lovable, Bolt, Replit, Cursor, Windsurf
This project currently ranks number 1 among projects on Lovable. And it only took a hackathon, 3 days, 3 engineers from South America and great idea. What took millions of dollars just a year ago takes just hours today.

You are merely minutes away from creating something you’ve always dreamed of creating.
Get to work!

A quick shout out to our main sponsor CAST Capital Partners. A bit of a shameless plug, but real estate is innate part of my background and CAST has played a huge part in helping advance some of my projects. If you’re in need of tenant representation for a lease/re-negotiation or interested in acquiring or selling a commercial property, let CAST help you out!
I will continue to stay on top of what’s happening in San Diego, specifically in North County. I am building a bit of a hit list of events in the coming days and weeks.
The No Agenda Event Series is in full force in 2025. I’ll be your host with one goal to make it a great experience. Each event series will have a focus on categories from sports tech to operations to marketing to AI. Each event has a cap and is industry specific, meaning we’re pretty strict on attendance to keep conversations at a high level.

🤔 LinkedIn Thoughts 🤔
It’s Padres Opening Day and I was reminded this morning of a first pitch I helped orchestrate… that is quite easily the most viewed first pitch in the history of MLB.
I’ve posted it before, but it’s trending upwards of 600M+ views and could even be higher than that.
I knew the idea had a shot at going viral on social, but being called the best first pitch in the history of MLB wasn’t where I thought it would go.
Sometimes it’s the little ideas and a big network that can turn a simple thought into a masterpiece.
🏅 North County, San Diego Spotlight 🏅
This week, I am highlighting a friend and local legend, Lonie Paxton (and national legend, but he lives here in North County). Lonie is one most humble guys I know. He’s a got pretty incredible resume from the NFL to GoPro to multiple investment projects. He’s a former New England Patriot with 3 Super Bowl rings and has his hand in some great projects. If you see Lonie at one of our upcoming sports tech events, make sure to let him know you’re a Patriots fan. If not, you better be a fast runner 😂.
