In a world where uncertainty is certain, it’s often hard to prepare for the unexpected. Last week, my preparation met the unexpected.

I spend time each week as a participant in Immerse Fit, and on Saturday mornings I have the opportunity to coach. A few days ago, I experienced something I wasn’t expecting while coaching. One of our participants pushed himself past his limits underwater and lost consciousness.

Shallow water blackouts aren’t uncommon, but they can be incredibly dangerous in an uncontrolled environment. Thankfully, we had more than one trained individual in the pool and we were able to respond quickly and avoid any serious consequences.

Moments like that put life into perspective. Are we preparing ourselves for the unexpected? I’ve found that the only real way to do that is by leaning into discomfort, by training for the moments we hope never come and building the muscle of calm in chaos.

Growth lives on the edge of uncertainty. Sometimes it's not until you're face to face with the unexpected that you realize why preparation and presence matter so much.

I am excited to announce that our quarterly No Agenda Event Sports Tech event is next Tuesday, April 29th at 5pm at Fox Point Farms in Encinitas. And we have a little after party with music at Haven Farm + Table. This should be a fun one. The list of attendees is growing and the location is an amazing one for the event.

The No Agenda Event Series is in full force in 2025. I’ll be your host with one goal to make it a great experience. Each event series will have a focus on categories from sports tech to operations to marketing to AI. Each event has a cap and is industry specific, meaning we’re pretty strict on attendance to keep conversations at a high level.

🏅 North County, San Diego Spotlight 🏅

Every person has the capacity to give, but it takes a truly selfless individual to do so without expecting anything in return.

Brad Thorp and Beth Thorp are two of those consummate givers. And it came out of tragedy in their son’s life to create an incredible non-profit that has helped dozens of families in and around San Diego and beyond. The Mitchell Thorp Foundation puts on several local events in North County with a goal of providing financial support for families with children suffering from terminal illness. I was blessed to become friends with both of them and serve on their board for many years. I love seeing how much they continue to impact the local community.

Their Pillars of Hope event is back at La Costa Resort this year. It’s one of my favorite.
