This Week at Ponto Beach Club - February 17th Edition
If it’s your first time here, welcome to the Ponto Beach Club.
If you’re not familiar with the name, it’s a beach in South Carlsbad and one of my favorite surf spots.
I am on a mission to connect great humans to create successful outcomes.
Read on for my weekly slice of sneakers-on-the-sidewalk insight into the SD business community.
Where My Heads At This Week 👇
I hope you all had an amazing President’s Day weekend!
I missed the Super Bowl festivities for the first time in 3 years… The festivities themselves are worth the price of admission. And let me clarify, I don’t go to the games, it’s the events that have some of the best networking I’ve ever seen. I’ll be there next year in Santa Clara, so let’s make sure to connect if you make it out.
The NBA All-Star game format was a little more interesting this year. And I was excited to learn that the 2026 NBA All-Star Game will be at Intuit Dome (LA Clippers new arena). I had a chance to visit the new Intuit Dome a few weeks ago. It’s a masterpiece, to say the least.
I am trying to stay on top of what’s happening in San Diego, specifically in North County. I am building a bit of a hit list of events in the coming weeks.
The No Agenda Event Series is in full force in 2025. I’ll be your host with one goal to make it a great experience. Each event series is focused on specific industries from sports tech to operations to marketing to AI. Each event has a cap and is industry specific, meaning we’re pretty strict on attendance to keep conversations at a high level.
Upcoming Insider Events:

I pride myself on my network, it’s my strong suit… it takes you places you least expect.
Most kids in college don’t realize that their most valuable asset, in that college setting, is the person in the chair next to them.
Fast forward 20+ years and I still connect with that same college network quite often. As I have expanded that network, some of my best stories were the ones that just happened organically.
Over the last few years I’ve ended up in the NFL Super Bowl setting and found myself in places I never thought I’d be. I went from meeting major celebrities and having conversations with some of my favorite athletes to being at an Airbnb with the Super Bowl Champions. It sounds crazy but it’s the truth.
When Covid hit, I spent some time investing, consulting and managing a number of high profile people. It sort of ended up in my lap while I was trying to put fires out on my own investment portfolio.
I probably have one of the more unique Rolodex’s. I treat everyone I meet the same. I don’t get overly excited about meeting people.
That being said, I did get a little excited at this moment, when we were at Shaq’s Super Bowl party and he stopped all traffic to make sure he got a photo with Gangster Granny. She happens to be one of the most iconic social media stars at 98 years old. Shaq is hands down one of the nicest humans you’ll meet.
I truly believe the events in and around the Super Bowl are some the best networking events in the world. And I’m sure many that have been can attest to that.
I am sad I’m missing the festivities this year in New Orleans, but I can assure you I’ll be in Santa Clara next February!

Matt Williams and I have worked on a few projects over the years and he happens to be at the top of my list when it comes to LinkedIn engagement. Give him a follow and you’ll quickly learn why he’s becoming on the best in terms of engagement and

I'm seeing a lot of green "open to work" profiles popping up the last 6 weeks...and I want to help.
In the past I've followed these steps to secure consulting clients on LinkedIn.
I've modified to help in your career search:
Step 1- ID top 20 companies you'd like to work with and fit your strengths and scan open roles
Step 2- ID 10 people in each company via LI (HR, C Suite, Department Head, Peers)
Step 3- Follow / connect / support
Step 4- Be an expert- Study / consume information from earnings reports, press releases, background bios, anything you can get your hands on.
Step 5- Contribute on social posts in an authentic way....not just commenting "great post" or simply liking.

What’s Next at Ponto Beach Club?
I’m hosting a private ‘speakeasy-style’ Happy Hour at the Leucadia Club for those in the sports tech space.
📅 DATE: February 25th at 5:30pm - 8pm
📍 LOCATION: The Leucadia Club (speakeasy), Encinitas, CA
No sales pitches. Just good drinks, better stories, and maybe a wig if the mood strikes. If you’re in the North County manufacturing scene, hit reply, and I’ll get you an invite with the address.
Until next week,
